Nice weather + weekend = gardening

So it is Saturday and my first day off work. And what's more, the sun is shining! This meant that we could finally work on the back garden. The grass hadn't been cut when we moved in in September, so you can imagine what it was like over the winter. Now that the temperature has started to warm up and we have had a mixture of sun and rain, the plants are starting to wake up, and the grass was beginning to go wild. Jon attacked it with a strimmer, and it's looking a lot more tidy. (Although the ground is incredibly lumpy underneath, so it can only look so good without a huge amount of effort, which seeing as it isn't our place, we're not going to put in.)

Whilst Jon was strimming, I planted out some snapdragons and geraniums into pots. However, I didn't get very far before running out of pots and soil (still got lots of plants, though!). Already, the few pots with the little plants in them are brightening up the garden, so tomorrow I'll be popping along to some local stores to get more soil and pots.

We also cleared a climbing plant that had climbed over our fence from next door. Obviously it had been cut back in previous years, but not to the top of the fence, which is what I wanted. The fence underneath clearly hadn't seen sunlight for a while, because it is green and grass at the bottom isn't looking great. I'm thinking about planting out some sweet peas, but they'll have to go into long boxes as opposed to into the ground, because there's concrete and stones and the soil isn't great around there.

I'm also planning on enjoying the back garden tomorrow with a little barbecue. And I've got to go and visit the boat tomorrow to shut the window that I left open last time I was there. Oops! Good job it hasn't rained since then.
